3D Printing Door Hook — Session 2

For this project, I decided to make a simple door hook. The door hook is designed to go over the top of the door and can remain there whether the door is closed or open. The top part (square section) is 46.888 mm long, which is long enough for the 1.75in (44.45 door) width on my bedroom door. The back hook comes down about 20mm (.78in), giving the hook itself something to hold onto. The hook then extends down the other side of the door 50mm (1.96in), and begins to create the hook. The entire hook piece extends out 25mm from the door (.98in) and the hook comes back around 18mm from the bottom (.70in). As for width, the entire piece itself is 50mm wide (1.96in).

I made most corners into edges using the fillet tool, but kept the sharp edge on the hook side in the event that it doesn’t tilt up from the round edge, and on the hook itself, in the event that a jacket gets caught on the sharper edge.

This project was pretty practical, although a door hook like this might need to be longer than something that can fit 3"x3"x3". This would obviously work, but probably wouldn’t be strong enough to hold a large amount of weight, unless it was made with a stronger material. I’m looking forward to making more practical things like this can improve the small moments of everyday life, as well as make other things that I didn’t know I needed.
