Augmented Exercise 1 — Aidan Massie
For this project, I decided to use the Empire State Building as my 3D Object. The goal for me was to tell the story of how the building has changed over time through imagery and description. Viewers are able to see 4 images (original blueprints, an image of the construction stage, a view from the observation deck, and the building lit up at night on the outside) and short descriptions that go along with them. Additionally, Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” can play by clicking the button on the right. The button on the left changes the text on the bottom, which discusses the building’s history as “Tallest Building in the World.”
The building was built for office space, but over time, has become an iconic building in the New York City skyline that offers much more than just offices. The observation deck, the lights shining on the building at night, and its status as such a recognizable building in modern culture make its consumption become much different than its production.
I would’ve liked to have the images and text be cycled through by their own respective buttons, but I had trouble getting that code to work. I decided to lay everything out in the game view, so the viewer is able to take time to read everything and see everything, with the great music playing in the background as well.
