In this project, we’re looking for users to experience something in an unorthodox way — creating music with their feet instead of their hands. By using foot pedals that are synced to certain notes of a piano, users will be able to create melodies of their choice once they begin playing the foot piano.

Sketch of Project

Installation Plan

Our installation plan is to have a relatively clean setup, in a space that is slightly dimmed. The user will be able to step up to the foot pedals, which will form in a semicircle around the user, and be able to hear from speakers the notes that they’re triggering with the pedals.

Questions about Project

  • Should we use arduino speakers or use computer sound connected to a better speaker to create the notes?
  • Should the notes taper off after a while? Stop abruptly? Only play while a pedal is down? Hold out for a certain amount of time after the pedal is released?
